Policies

Arrival & departure:

Punctuality is extremely important and students are expected to arrive at the scheduled time. Based on this expectation teachers plan their day. Children also need time to settle down before the day’s activities begin. Children arriving early will not be allowed into the environment as teachers need this time to organise themselves for the day. Drop off will be at the main door of the school. One of us will receive your child at the door. For Van Children, parents will be informed about the pickup point and time for their child. You are requested to get in touch with school if you will be late to pick up or you are authorizing another person to pick up your child. If you are late more than 10 minutes, child will be sending to aftercare area.

Absences:

Please inform the school whenever your child is not able to attend school, coming in late and/or leaving school early. In case of long absences please send a letter accordingly, addressed to the coordinator /principal.

Sick child policy:

For the health and safety of all children and staff, we follow a strict policy regarding sick children.
1. If we feel that a child is infectious (bad cough, nasal congestion, eye infection, head lice), he/she will be asked to go home without negotiation.
2. A child who was sick must be free from fever and medication for 24 hours before returning to school.
3. Parents will be asked to pick up their child from school immediately if he/she has diarrhea, nausea, fever or an unidentified skin complaint.
4. Please trim your child’s nails every Sunday (regularly).

Food & Drink:

Parents are responsible for providing snack, water and snack towel everyday. Please pack easy-to-eat snack so that your child can eat by himself/herself and easily finish the food during break-time. Adults and support staff will be helping the M0 children who cannot eat by themselves, but gradually will encourage them to eat by themselves. M1, M2 M3 children will eat their snack under the adult supervision. Please understand that the snack time in school is not breakfast time. It is just an encouragement for the children to eat with their friends. So children are expected to have their breakfast before coming to school. Please label lunch box, water bag and snack towel.

Environment materials:

Montessori materials are very attractive and are there in the environment to be used by all the children. Sometimes children find them so attractive that pieces of apparatus get invited home! If this happens please return them on the following day. They could be part of a set.

Minor injuries:

Though Mayflower Montessori takes all precautionary measures to ensure safety in its campus, may we remind you that minor scratches, bumps and bruises are part of normal childhood. We are equipped with a first-aid kit to handle minor injuries. In case of major injuries, the first point of contact will be the parents/guardians and they will be responsible for all other decisions.

Dressing your child for school:

Uniform days are Monday to Wednesday for M0 children and Monday to Thursday for M1 – M3 children. Please make sure that your child is properly dressed for school. Make it a habit for your child to wear undergarments regularly. Please note that even if the child is wearing leggings, he/she should be wearing undergarment inside. Please send an extra pair of dress including undergarment in your child’s school bag.
Kindly do NOT send your child to school wearing expensive jewellery such as gold chains and dangling earrings. School is not responsible for the care of such items. A basket is kept near the main entrance of the school for ‘lost & found’ clothing/water bottles/snack boxes. Such belongings that are not claimed after some time may be donated to people in need.

Check list:

Be sure the school has emergency contact information. Check the mails for important dates such as parent meetings and special events. Advice us of any changes in your normal schedule, the child’s routine, medications, pick up changes, change of address or telephone numbers. Keep note of special information put up on the School Notice Board.

Toilet training:

We maintain a regular restroom schedule in school but we don’t do potty training in school. Already toilet trained children (M1 – M3) are encouraged to be independent and have free access, with support, to the toilet.

Parent / teacher interaction:

We value meaningful communication and interaction with our parents. Parent Teacher meetings are organized regularly and written reports will be given at the end of the academic year. Please feel free to ask questions or discuss anything related to your child’s progress with the adult in charge before or after school hours with prior appointment.
